🔧 Required & Recommended Maintenance
 
When increasing the output of the M157 engine to 700+ HP, the demands on your ignition and cooling systems increase significantly. To ensure peak performance and longevity, we recommend the following:
 
1. Ignition System (Critical)
Spark Plugs: We recommend upgrading to NGK 97506 (SILZKBR8D8S) "Step 1 Colder" plugs.
Gap Specification: Gap plugs to 0.022" (0.55mm). This prevents "spark blow-out" under the increased boost levels of Stage 1 and Stage 2 calibrations.
Service Interval: Replace spark plugs every 15,000–20,000 miles once tuned.
 
2. Fluids & Filtration
Engine Oil: Use a high-quality 5W-40 (MB-Approval 229.5) such as Motul 8100 X-cess or Liqui Moly Leichtlauf High Tech.
Oil Changes: Reduce intervals to every 5,000 miles.
Air Filters: Ensure your factory air filters are clean or upgrade to high-flow drop-in filters (e.g., K&N or BMC) to allow the turbos to breathe efficiently at higher boost.
 
3. Cooling System
Intercooler Coolant: The M157 uses a split cooling system. Ensure the charge air cooler (intercooler) coolant level is topped up.
Heat Management: For Stage 2 builds used in hot climates, we recommend upgrading the Auxiliary Heat Exchanger to maintain consistent intake air temperatures (IATs).
 
4. Fuel Quality
Minimum Octane: All performance figures are based on 93 Octane (98 RON).
Warning: Do not use lower than 91 octane on performance maps. If 93 is unavailable, please contact us for a specific "Low Octane" calibration to prevent engine knock.
