📘 ECU Removal Guide (Bosch EDC17CP24)
Estimated Time: 30–45 Minutes | Tools Needed: 10mm Socket, Torx T25/T30, Flathead Screwdriver, Dremel/Pliers (for security bolts).
1. Preparation
Battery Disconnect: Ensure the ignition is OFF. Disconnect the negative battery terminal (located under the driver’s seat) and wait 10 minutes before proceeding to prevent any electronic surges.
2. Accessing the ECU
Location: The ECU is located in the Plenum Chamber (the area under the windshield wipers).
Remove Weatherstripping: Pull the long rubber seal that runs across the engine bay near the windshield.
Cowl Removal: Gently lift the plastic cowl/water deflector. You may need to remove the windshield wiper arms if you require more space, though it is often possible to "prop" the cowl up.
 
3. Removing the ECU
Security Cage: The EDC17CP24 is typically encased in a metal anti-theft bracket held by "shear bolts" (bolts with heads that break off at the factory).
Removing Shear Bolts: Use a Dremel to cut a small slot in the top of the bolt to use a flathead screwdriver, or use locking pliers to grip and turn the rounded heads.
Unplugging: Once the bracket is off, slide the two locking tabs on the large wiring harness connectors outward. The plugs will eject themselves.
Slide Out: Lift the ECU out of its plastic mounting cradle.
